Tyro!

Greetings, I’m the cartoonist that creates ‘Lo, Heroes!’.

This is my first webcomic and I’m incredibly excited to see where it goes. It has already been a great challenge and I look forward to growing as an artist/writer throughout this grand pilgrimage.

My purpose in creating this comic is to help externalize some of my thoughts and ideas so that I may come to understand myself more deeply.

I strongly believe in the Enlightenment values of science, reason, and humanism and these principles will be explored and tested in the fictional worlds I create.

My influences for ‘Lo, Heroes!’ are widely varied, but include: Adventure Time, Twin Peaks, Lost, SNES era Video Games, Stephen King, JRR Tolkien, and many more.

Acknowledgments

A good ally can easily be taken for granted and it is very rare that we find those in this world that would fight with us to the bitter end.

Thus, it is paramount that I take a moment to thank those who have supported me as I follow my fantasies:

Kayala, Your love and support has kept me confident in my abilities, and has promoted my willingness to explore artistic avenues I wouldn’t have otherwise pursued. Your honesty and authentic critique of my art has encouraged me to continue developing my abilities to avoid stagnation. Not to mention the two perfect children you’ve given me which are always an endless fountain of inspiration and hope.

Dad, seeing your art as a kid sparked a creative flame that has yet to go out. I can never thank you enough for that. One time you said, “Be whatever you want to be when you grow up, but whatever you choose try to be the very best there is at it.” This alone has pushed me to continually try my best and, if you ask me,  you have succeeded at being the very best Dad there is.

Mom, I have always been a bit of an odd kid. I was comfortable with that because I always knew that no matter how much of an outcast I was amongst my peers, I’d get home to a Mom that loved me unconditionally for exactly who I was. You’ve always wanted nothing more than our happiness. For Easter in 2003 you gave me Linkin Park’s album ‘Meteora’, and the next year Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’. You knew exactly what I needed because you actually cared about who I was. Thanks to you I am now resilient and secure in myself as an artist, who just happens to be a bit eccentric.

Nick, no matter what I’m going through I can always rely on you to be there for me. You’re as dependable as a brother could be and I’m sure that even if ‘Lo, Heroes!’ was revolting to read you’d still be a steady supporter. I’ve always wanted to be the best role model as possible knowing that you were growing up under my wing, but know that through witnessing your natural selflessness and generosity I’ve learned much from you too. I can’t wait to see what great things you go on to create and contribute to the world.

Special thanks to everyone that critiqued ‘Lo, Heroes!’ when it was just a draft. Your input helped improve so many aspects of the final result.

Finally, thanks to all who read and share ‘Lo, Heroes!’ with others.
